Spring And Chaos

Spring And Chaos is an anime narrating the life story of a japanese poet Kenji Miyazawa. Portraying his, to a casual observer, unhappy life and yet to him it was probably just fabulous.

The story begins with Kenji just missing a train so he is too late to say goodbye to a girl he cherished. Next... his class. The students all think Kenji is a very weird person who talks to ghosts and such... and the weirdness gets confirmed with him suddenly sneaking into the class through the window! He then continues with his teaching methods that include closing your eyes doing nothing or walking around cuntryside just observing the surroundings (all the methods that are very strange by the japanese standards). He is however quite sucessfull in teaching his students how to live their lives.

Well, the anime touches almost every aspect of Kenji's short life - he died at the age of 37. I like to think about the movie as "animated poetry", which shows of in the very first minutes of the move with Kenji just stopping everything and writing what he feels with no concern about the rest of the world... and when his pencil breaks his only thought is: "I failed".

As long as Kenji lived his live was the life of an average artist... poor and unrecognised. But that changed after his death and the anime was released in 1996... in his memory, 100 years after he was born.
