Pom Poko
Pom Poko is a heart warming story involving a couple Taniku clans and humans (as invaders). It is effectivly criticism of human behaviour towards nature, as we came to expect from Ghibli.
The time and place are not exactly set... The story takes place at a border of a large Japanese city in the late 20th century. Tanuki teritory is being threatened by humans that are continuosly expanding their cities with no reagard towards wildlife that sorrounds them. With their teritory shrinking every day the Tanuki clans start fighting eachother in order to survive, but they soon come to realise it's better to join in a battle against humans. Soon they start using their abbility to transform in all sorts of things and efectively scare humans away, but not for long...
Coming from Studio Ghibli, Pom Poko features great animation and even better story with lots to think about. If you're the type of viewer that bets on spectacular fights, lots of action and special effects.... stay away from it. If you look for something that will make you think while enjoying the movie... well... thumbs up.
