Lupin III - First Contact
Have you ever wondered how Lupin, Jigen, Fujiko and Goemon got together in the first place? Oh yeah... I guess we could say Zenigata is part of the team too... so yeah, he's there too. This one comes from the year 2002.
It's a story our dear Jigen tells to a reporter. It all started when Lupin tried to steal an ancient treasure from the mafia. He of course doesn't know Jigen has been hired to protect that very treasure. Well... after a shootout and a spectacular car chase (involving a subway train) Lupin is left empty handed and yet the treasure is gone. Who's to blame clears up as Fujiko appears... now all they need is the key to open it. And that turns out to be a tricky task with Jigen, the Mafia, the police, Zenigata and Goemon, everyone for a diferent reason, chasing them (they're not exactly partners either).
I must admit Lupin III is one of my favourite sagas altho I'm not exactly sure how many I watched already. The First Contact does the saga honour with it being just as funny, action packed, inventive, etc... as the rest of it. If you ever saw a Lupin III movie/OVA/episode then you know what you're getting into. If not... well it won't let you down, but I'd hardly say it's awesome. In any case it's good, damn good! And don't be fooled by the silly art cos it fits the atmosphere. Oh and Monkey Punch delivered a kick-ass soundtrack once again... this time with some portuguese lyrics.
