Lupin III - The Castle Of Cagliostro

pic

Lupin III is basically a large collection of outstanding anime series, movies and special. The Castle Of Cagliostro is placed somewhere in the middle of the second season tv series, but you can watch it without any prior knowledge about the story. The movie is totaly unrelated to any other Lupin III episode.

his time Lupin and Jigen take on the national casino and run off with 5 billion (yen I suppose), but Lupin soon realises the bills are false... the so called better-than-real Goat Bills. They decide to have some fun and start throwing the money out of the car on the middle of the highway. They want to get to the bottom of the mistery so they travel to the Duchy of Cagliostro. Soon after crossing the border their little car breaks down and just as Jigen fixes it... a bride in a car passes them followed by some strange man. And Lupin, being the womaniser we are used to, decides to help her:
Jigen: "Who are we helping?"
Lupin: "The woman of course!"
Jigen: "Typical..."
After an insane speed chase they manage to get rid of the pursuers but then they notice the bride fainted, so Lupin jumps over into her car and tries to stop it... and they both drop over a cliff. Luckily Lupin is full of surprising gadgets so they're kinda safe... except for him of course. Falling for a few metres down to the rocky beach the bride lands on top of him, knocking him out of his senses. While she's trying to nurse him back the strange men return with a boat and kidnap her. All that's left is a ring with a goat crest. And Lupin knows more to it than he tells Jigen.

The Castle of Cagliostro is a pretty old anime... dating back to 1978. But it's specific style and absolutely flawless animation don't show the age. Maybe the style is to blame for making the anime one of the most popular series (running from 1971). It's filled with top notch slapstick comedy and great action, and as always... a healthy ammount of mistery. Lupin is the most wanted thief afterall. And if you're missing our friends Goemon, Fujiko and Zenigata from the teaser above, let me assure you... they're there, fighting the evil Count Cagliostro. Good family/friends fun, all thumbs up.
