Queen Emeraldas
"I am Emeraldas. The vast sea of stars is my home. Some call me "the woman who does not cry". Let them call me what they will. For theirs are merely the foolish words of those who have little understanding of the reason for my journey. Yes, I am Emeraldas. The woman who entrusts her very existance to the endless sea of stars through which she journeys."
This 62 minute long OVA (2 episodes, 31 minutes each) is set in Leiji Matsumoto's universe. For the ones not familiar with the legendary creations... His universe is composed of The Galaxy Express 999, Captain Herlock and Queen Millenia along with all of their spinoffs, OVA's, Movies and sequels.
The movie tells a story of a young boy named Hiroshi Umino who pursues his dreams. He wants to build his own space ship just like his idol, Tochiro. In the process he makes new friends and, of course enemies, but most importantly... he meets Emeraldas. The legendary pirate who, along Tochiro and Herlock, fights for justice.
You don't need to know all the other series mentioned above to anjoy Queen Emeraldas. Of course it helps to know some of the background, but for the bigger part it is a stand alone story... and it explains the important things as you watch along. On the technical side, it's very well done, with a fabulous color key and typical Leiji charcter design. If you like any of the above series, then this is a must-have. However, don't expect too much of a story.
"I am Emeraldas. Just as this sea of stars is eternal, so is the pledge I made together with the Queen Emeraldas, to the ones I trust and to the one I love. This pledge will never fade. I know my destination. I am the woman who was born to fulfill this purpose. I am Emeraldas."
